Shelby

Shelby was rescued as a tiny puppy several years ago from Granville County Animal Shelter.  The animal control officers fell in love with her and could not bring themselves to put her down but could not help her because she had a fractured left leg.  After several sets of xrays, Dr. Covington found that Shelby had multiple fractures and the leg was also very infected at the fracture sites and she would later amputate Shelby's leg after she was stabilized with antibiotics and pain medications.

Today Shelby runs faster and jumps higher than most other dogs around.  Her favorite thing to do is to swim, and her favorite place to swim is Kerr Lake.  She will swim after the ducks and Dr. Covington has to fuss at her to turn around and come back to shore.  She also loves to run in the woods behind her house, and she occasionally finds a deer or two and gives them a run for their money.

Because Shelby was so young when she lost her leg, she truly knows no difference and has adapted very well to her situation.
